Jewellery that's Out Of This World

  • By Antiques-Art-Design Sydney

If you are lucky enough to be in New York between now and the beginning of September, then pop into the Forbes Gallery exhibition that is truly out of this world.

Space and the stars above have acted as inspiration for artists and jewellery designers. This can be partly attributed to the fact that many basic elements of jewellery consist of minerals and metals that often have galactic origins.

Entitled “Out Of This World! Jewelry in the Space Age” the exhibition at the gallery on Fifth Avenue (at 12th Street), will include objects from more than 100 designers and lenders.

The exhibition will combine celestial inspired jewelry, pieces made with cosmic materials and jewelry that has actually been in outer space. It will include works by Van Cleef and Arpels, Cartier and Tiffany & Co., along with established jewelry artists and other space-related objects.

In case you aren’t able to get to New York before the exhibition finishes at the beginning of September, below are a few examples of what they have on show.
